An article photograph and written during a journey to discover Iceland, for the second issue of MADNN MAG: INSTINK
Abstract
- “In the late 19th century neurologists were obsessed with the study of reflexes. Willherm Erb, Joseph Babinski and William Gowers, just to name a few of the male minds behind the still standing knowledge about reflexes. Two centuries later, Space to Blink aims to map physical reflexes as a nonsystematic approach to emotions in relation to the cartography of the Icelandic landscape. The objective of this article remains solely in a personal, even romantic, interest of tackling our own emotional nature.
- Cartography is used as a way of finding a common ground, a general agreement that comes with an unilateral negotiation, in which what is unknown, remains unmapped. The Icelandic landscape physical reflexes and our emotional nature represent the terra incognita that we aim to map. This will be done through the medium images and words, hoping to shed some light on the unseen forces that move us from within. “
