INTIMACY STORIES PODCAST
MAR 2020-today

Interview, script, creative direction, community management, copywriting
Intimate, real and anonymous stories

Project overview

A podcast that  launched in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, using storytelling to ignite transformation in Colombia’s conservative and double-standard society.

The main differentiating factors are the short and anonymous stories, as well as the creative direction and channel distribution strategy.

The podcast

Over 109 episodes, around five different formats have been explored, with the star product of ten minutes narrative episodes with a main framework.
Story submit > original interview (off the record) > script > voice actor > direction & recording > editing > publish > channels

The stories are submitted by the podcast’s audience, which quickly grew interest on sharing their stories, as well as participating in the different audio podcasts presented -audio blind dates, audio ‘Bumble’, collective stories- .

Interviews were later introduced as ‘Intimacy talks’, which went deep into the topics that were delt with the narrative episodes, which was accompanied by additional information.

Channels

All the main podcasting platforms, plus a Whatsapp subscription list, an active Discord space, and an Instagram account.

Whatsapp served as a channel to create rememberance and connect the audience with a listening habit, Discord as an open communication space between the podcast’s and the overall brand community  —in which also additional information regarding each episode’s topic is shared and stored— and the Instagram account as a source of insights for the podcast’s creative direction, story submission, audience feedback, and overall growth.

Challenges

  1. Applying design methodologies into the creation of an audio product.
  2. Pioneering in the podcast space in Colombia.
  3. Sharing content that dwells with intimate, sometimes erotic and sexual topics, while complying with social media policies.

Milestones

  1. Previous research for this project, Universidad de los Andes in Volarán (2018) as outstanding degree project.
  2. Master talk at the Design Fair Medellín 2022 on ‘how to design intimacy’.
  3. Invited to Al Oído, Ibero-American Podcast Festival (2021) to share our experience on audience loyalty and growth.
  4. Host of a growth conversation with Se Regalan Dudas podcast and Dementes (2022).
